The EdgeCluster is developped by Antoine Dubourg, a single company person with more than 30 years of experience in the IT sector.
How EdgeCluster has been developped?
EdgeCluster has been fully developped with open source softwares:
- FreeCAD, the parametric & volumic 3D modeler,
- LibreCAD, a simple yet effective 2D drawing tool,
- KiCAD, the go to for anything electronic related,
- LibreOffice, you always need some spreadsheet at one point,
- Geany, got a text file to edit,
- And many more.
Why did you develop this hardware?
Not everything has to be done in a datacenter. Also, developping and selling a hardware product was on my TODO list.
On a more serious point, moving computing outside of datacenter is probably the next wise move for any IT departement.
Distributed infrastructure offers resilience opportunities by duplicating/distributing/balancing data and processing over the network.
Where the components are sourced?
EdgeCluster is mostly an European built product. Most of enclosure is manufactured in Europe. Electronic parts mostly come from Asia. Final assembly is done in France.
